Introduction
Omair Sana Welfare Foundation – an initiative taken back in 2003 by a Pakistan-born American doctor, Kashif Hussain Ansari. Named after the two kids he had lost to thalassemia, Omair and Sana, the Foundation was established to help thalassemic children in Pakistan, where majority of them belonging to families living below poverty line and unable to afford the treatment. He was joined in this noble cause by his younger brother, Saqib Hussain Ansari, a doctor by profession, specializing in blood diseases.
That was the first step taken to embark on a journey of a thousand miles.
In 2005, realizing the magnitude of the work, enthusiasm and commitment, Dr. Ansari went on to officially register the Foundation as an NGO. Today, Alhamdullilah, Omair Sana Welfare Foundation is run, managed and overseen by a group of highly qualified professionals from different walks of the life. Our aim is to work day in day out for increased level of Thalassemia awareness and better patient management to minimize and eventually eradicate altogether the incidence of Thalassemia in Pakistan.
Although, thalassaemia is the prime focus, the Foundation takes pride in carrying out relief efforts in non-thalassemia domains as well.
We help Thalassemics not just EXIST but rather LIVE and lead a healthy life. The comprehensive patient management we offer is what differentiates us from the rest. Thalassemic patients, primarily children, we support are provided with treatment, education, nutrition and a host of social activities.
Our mission is,
To create awareness of Thalassemia among masses and educate them on its prevention and cure
To minimize the incidence of Thalassemia through prenatal diagnosis and genetic counseling
To make treatment available to Thalassemic patients who can not afford it on their own
To provide Thalassemic patients with Educational, Vocational and Professional rehabilitation to make them a productive and confident member of the society
We work very closely with Bismillah Taqee Institute of Health Sciences & Blood Diseases Center (BTIHS) {www.btihs.edu.pk}, our strategic partner for medical infrastructure and support, where the patients we support are registered in a specially designed Thalassemia program.
Although, Thalassemia is what we are basically focused on, we take pride in undertaking other diverse welfare activities, in particular relief efforts in case of natural calamities.
Please visit the ‘Downloads' section for pictures and videos of the activities we carry out.
